Problem

The combination of a lightweight, maintenance-free and clean linear rail for moving a wooden roof was not easy to find. In addition, the rail and the carriage had to work outdoors. Depending on the situation, they must be able to withstand harsh weather conditions and remain reliable for years without jamming. Storms, snow or even salt water on the coast and constant spray mist on the rail must not disrupt the system.

Solution

The drylin linear rails from igus are self-lubricating. This means that it is not necessary to apply extra lubricant or grease to the rail or carriage after installation. This is possible because the plastic polymers in the drylin carriage ensure easy and smooth running on the rail by themselves. In addition, the rail and the carriage are very clean and can even be touched without risking soiling clothing or the palms of the hands.

In addition, no grease or lubricating oil can be washed out by e.g. rain. It can be used reliably at any ambient temperature.
