Greater variability with lower costs

Use in glass production
FAST/Z/25" - this is the name of the development that Ernst Pennekamp GmbH & Co. OHG presented last year. FAST/Z/25 is compact, very fast and sensitive. It pushes the glass products coming out of the mould, which are around 500 ºC hot, into a cooling oven. Just like a robot, FAST/Z/25 can perform flowing, superimposed movements. This has several advantages. Firstly, the system is able to work almost without stopping. Secondly, it is much more flexible in terms of the arrangement of the bottles on the conveyor belt. Pennekamp requires an energy chain for the energy supply to the individual axes. The decision was made in favour of the triflex® R system from igus® with a round cross section. With its "housing pad" connection, it absorbs high tensile forces and at the same time allows smooth movements in all axes with clearly defined stop-dog for radius and torsion. In addition, the energy chain offers the best mechanical specification; very long cable service lives are achieved thanks to the smooth inner contours. When adapting the chain to the application and during subsequent service work, the triflex® R can be disconnected and reconnected at any point without having to cut or reconnect continuous support elements such as steel cables. The specially designed outer shape prevents the chain from snagging on interfering edges and avoids damage to the cable due to glass breakage as far as possible. Should the energy supply fail due to external influences, it can be replaced in a flash using the snap fasteners on the mounting bracket.

Unlimited application possibilities
The triflex® system shows its strengths wherever movements are in more than two directions. These are primarily applications on 6-axis robots, which can be found, for example, in all environments in welding and painting applications, in gluing and grinding technology, but also in the assembly of gearboxes or in screwdriving processes. It is also used in Scara robots at extremely high speeds. Spring rods can be integrated into triflex® R in order to specifically integrate pretension. They give the energy supply a specific orientation and keep it away from interfering edges, for example. In conventional systems, this is partly achieved using complex springs, cable pulls and guide systems. In addition to the increased space requirement and new interfering edges, these external elements exert further forces on the energy supply - with all the resulting disadvantages.

triflex® R on robots

Pennekamp uses the igus®system triflex® R for power transmission to the axis. igus® supplies the complete cable set with connector, energy chain and connection elements as readychain®.
