The radiosurgical operating table from NUOVA BN must fulfil the highest requirements. In a critical environment such as the operating theatre, fire-retardant, smooth, even, washable, non-reflective and sterilisable surfaces must be guaranteed. In addition, there must be no grooves to prevent the accumulation of dirt.

The challenge was to fulfil these requirements while ensuring reliability, easy disinfection, a minimal footprint and the possibility of replacing components. It also had to be highly resistant to wear and chemical resistance. High loads had to be guaranteed at the lowest possible but uniform rotational speed.

The PRT-01-50 slewing ring bearing from igus proved to be the perfect choice as it allows smooth rotation and can therefore easily cope with the loads and leverages. The smooth running of the bearing plays a particularly important role.

Due to the rotation of the entire system, the patient can be positioned individually. The lubrication-free material of the iglidur slewing ring bearing meets the high standards for hygiene and disinfection in the operating theatre. The combination of stainless steel and iglidur sliding elements is easy to clean and disinfect.

The possibility of replacing components means that the device can still be used in the event of a failure, while minimal maintenance and easy installation optimise operation.
