The introduction of the entry/exit system (EES) and the EU's Smart Borders Initiative revolutionises border controls and increases efficiency and security at the external borders of the Schengen Area. The EES systematically records the entry and exit data of third-country nationals travelling to the Schengen Area for short stays. This allows for precise calculation and monitoring of the length of stay and contributes to the fight against identity fraud and misuse of travel documents.
