Lubrication-free linear axes for an e-scooter lift in Deutsche Bahn's idea train

New innovative approaches to make travelling by train even more pleasant. With this idea in mind, the "idea train" was created, a Deutsche Bahn development platform for the passenger transport of tomorrow. Interactive films on the window panes, seating that can be adjusted depending on the load or areas with work counters. The ideas are diverse and show trends for the future.
Another idea: a lift for e-scooters, which is installed close to the entrance and exit and serves both as a parking space and a charging station. Metalworking specialist Arnold AG dedicated itself to realising the concept and looked for a suitable linear rail on which the scooter could be moved upwards easily and electrically.
The challenges: A compact, robust and fail-safe solution had to be found.

To make the e-scooter lift a reality, Arnold AG relies on our drylin® SLW 25120, a linear system consisting of a hard-anodised rail with aluminium double-shaft profile, carriage, stepper motor and control system, for the innovative concept.
The advantages for installation in the train are obvious: the drylin® rails are ideally suited for compact installation in the service wall in the entrance and exit area and are also completely lubrication-free. As scooters bring dirt from outside to the lift and lubricants attract dirt, the absence of lubricants was essential. In addition, the plastic from which the sliding elements are made has a damping specification and enables smooth running. And because the drive is self-locking, the lift stays securely in the desired position.
After the system was quickly put into operation, the concept was put to the test. And the function is very simple: the user hooks up the scooter, presses a button and drives the spindle, which pulls the scooter upwards.
