Bearings made of iglidur® C were specially developed for applications in which the use of PTFE and silicone is not possible. Such applications are found in electrical engineering, the tobacco and luxury food industry as well as in some painting processes. Keywords such as paint compatibility and freedom from silicone make it worth taking a closer look at this material.

Mechanical specification
The compressive strength of iglidur® C plain bearings decreases with increasing temperatures. diagram 02 illustrates this relationship. The maximum recommended surface pressure represents a mechanical material parameter. Conclusions about the tribology cannot be drawn from this.

diagram. 03 shows the elastic deformation of iglidur® C under radial load. The high flexibility makes the bearing suitable for vibrations and edge loads.

Permissible sliding speeds
Although important solid lubricants were deliberately omitted in the development of iglidur® C, the plain bearings are very wear-resistant and are therefore also suitable for continuous movements with medium sliding speeds. short-term speeds of up to 1.5 m/s are possible, but the main applications are at speeds below 0.5 m/s.

Temperatures
The upper short-term application temperature is +130 °C. However, the bearings can no longer be loaded at this temperature. It therefore makes sense to limit the temperature to around +80 to +90 °C. Please note that the bearing must be mechanically secured in the housing from temperatures of +40 °C to counteract the risk of the bearing coming loose.

Friction and wear
The coefficient of friction of iglidur® C bearings depends to a large extent on the surface finish of the shaft. The wear of the bearing is also very good in applications with rotating or swivelling movements at low loads.

Radioactive radiation
Bearings made from iglidur® C are resistant to a radiation intensity of up to 2 x 104 Gy. Higher radiation levels attack the material and can lead to the loss of important mechanical specifications.

Moisture absorption
The moisture absorption of iglidur® C bearings is approx. 7 % when saturated in water and must therefore be taken into account for applications in humid environments.

Installation tolerances
iglidur® C bearings are standard bearings for shafts with tolerance (recommended at leasth9).

The bearings are designed for press-fitting into a H7-toleranced mount. After installation in a mounting with nominal dimension, the inner diameter of the bearing with D11 tolerance adjusts itself.
